Unless otherwise specified, all images in University Communications themes should have a 16:9 ratio. Recommended dimensions are 1500x844 pixels.

Responsive web design automatically adapts a web page for multiple devices and screen sizes. Not all devices need the highest resolution image due to a smaller screen size. Meanwhile, other devices (such as those with Retina displays) need a higher resolution image to maintain sharpness.

When an image is uploaded to your website, the server crops multiple sizes. The appropriate sized image is then sent to a user’s device. The 1500x844px dimensions are the maximum size image needed and will ensure that all users receive a sharp image.

Images with smaller dimensions might still render correctly, but some users will likely experience a degradation in quality. When using a smaller than recommended image, you should ensure that it doesn’t look blurry on a variety of different devices (desktop, tablet, and phone).
