Categories are a useful tool for organizing content, helping users find relevant content, and creating subsets of posts for reference in other areas of the site (via RSS feed, for example). Posts should belong to at least one category (other than 'Uncategorized), but can also belong to multiple categories if the content spans several different areas.

It is recommended for every site to have a set number of categories to use - these can be reviewed semi-frequently to ensure that existing categories are being used and to determine when a new category is needed. Avoid creating new categories for only a few posts - dedicated categories for 5 or fewer posts are usually better represented through use of Tags.
