NC State Engineering Foundation announces creation of the Young Alumni Advisory Board
The Engineering Foundation is delighted to announce the creation of the NC State Engineering Young Alumni Advisory Board. After an overwhelming response to a call for applications, a group of 18 young professionals representing various engineering disciplines from NC State classes of 2003 and later, joined together for their first advisory board meeting.

Engineering alumna assigned to International Space Station mission
The NC State alumna and NASA astronaut Christina Hammock Koch will serve as a flight engineer on a mission set to launch to the International Space Station in April 2019. Koch earned bachelor’s degrees from NC State in physics and electrical engineering in 2001 and a master’s degree in electrical engineering in 2002.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the College of Engineering’s distance learning program. What began in 1978 — when lessons were recorded and mailed to students on VHS tapes — has grown into one of the nation’s top ten online engineering graduate programs.

2018 Miller Fellows announced
Every May is marked by the announcement of thousands of graduates from NC State. These Wolfpack grads will put their “think and do” attitudes to work as they take their next steps after graduation. For some students, this means forgoing a traditional career path and instead choosing to pursue their entrepreneurial endeavour full-time.

New tech may make prosthetic hands easier for patients to use
Engineering researchers have developed new technology for decoding neuromuscular signals to control powered, prosthetic wrists and hands. The work relies on computer models that closely mimic the behavior of the natural structures in the forearm, wrist and hand. The technology could also be used to develop new computer interface devices for applications such as gaming and computer-aided design (CAD).
