Keeping your information safe

Dear %%firstname%% –

We hope your summer has been energizing and that you’re ready to join us in the fall! For our part, we have enjoyed having many of you on campus for new student orientation, and for those who haven’t joined us yet, we look forward to seeing you soon.

Recently a Facebook group for the class of 2021 was brought to our attention. The group poses as an official group administered by members of the university community. Please be aware that this is not the case. Identical groups have been created by the same administrators for universities across the country and it appears they are being used to gather personal information from group members. While it seems that several posts are from legitimate NC State students, many are not. There are several instances of our incoming students posting their phone numbers, residence hall assignments, and other personal information to the group. We have no indication the information is being used with malicious intent, but we do encourage all of you to be mindful of sharing this information on social media platforms and to consider removing any sensitive information you may have posted. Please review the NC State Office of Information Technology webpage on social media privacy.

It is great to see the excitement you all have for joining the Wolfpack in the fall. We always look forward to the energy each new class brings to campus and we’re happy to be here to help with your transition to NC State. Please contact us at academic-student-affairs@ncsu.edu if you have any questions or concerns.
